About Ryan McGuire

Let’s make the connection.

We create the concept of “self” in the mind, but this idea is a temporary illusion.

Ultimately, I am just a guy who can explain the mind/body/spirit connection.

The interconnectedness of all things has been proven via quantum mechanics. So, we are practically the same person! Who am I to tell you who I am?

I am so grateful and honored to be a counselor. It feels like being a Jedi.

Recovery starts with the right counselor/client relationship.

Life experiences shape our thinking style, feelings, and behavior.

I believe in the recovery model of mental health and wellness.

Let’s face it, we live in a crazy world; and usually mental health issues arise in reaction to environmental and relationship stress.

I started RealTalkCT.com to match clients with their ideal counselors and vice versa.

Research shows quality of the counselor-client relationship is the single most important factor in achieving positive results. Accessing the right counselor using “telehealth” or online therapy is the way of the future.

Success begins with awareness and a positive mindset.

The goal of counseling is to improve and maintain mental health by increasing the client’s awareness. When we know better, we do better.

In my experience, clients who approach therapy with a neutral or optimistic mindset usually achieve their goals for mental health and recovery.

Clients with a negative mindset about counseling are common in therapy. Usually people who have seen one or multiple counselors that were not a good fit become jaded by this process.

As a former client in therapy, I get it.

My professional background…

I received my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Salve Regina University in Newport, RI, and my Master’s degree in Community Counseling from University Saint Joseph in West Hartford, CT.

My work experience includes working with children of all ages in group homes, juvenile criminal offenders, and reunifying families with DCF involvement.

I have treated adult clients with anxiety, depression, PTSD, schizophrenia, dissociative disorders, and more. My specialization also includes trauma-informed care, as well as autism and other developmental difficulties.

A Little About Me…

As a teenager, I first identified with being an athlete. I played tennis, hockey, and I loved to ski. In college, I had to get serious about my future – I felt so much pressure choosing classes. Thank God for my advisor Sal Broussard. He and others thought I would be interested in psychology.

Today, I classify myself as a mindful telehealth nerd with a love for animals, especially my pit bull therapy dogs. I am a new father, which has made me realize how little I really know. The impermanence of life is what grounds me, but I too am a dreamer. My dream is to be your counselor or connect you with one of our clinicians. It is an honor and a privilege to work with you. I am grateful.
