About Brittany Ray, MSN-FNP, BS, RN

About my approach (style) to therapy…

I believe in accepting people as they are and providing attentive, compassionate care and safe spaces for processing current life situations and memories.

I tend to use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Narrative Exposure Therapy, Gottman and other methods for couples, as well as additional trauma-focused methods. I am flexible and always learning, so depending on the client and the latest evidence-based research I may incorporate new or unique techniques to best aid my clients.

As an NP, I can go beyond talk therapy and incorporate medications to help manage symptoms and certain diagnoses. The use of both in tandem can be more effective than one alone.

I believe every person benefits from a customized approach to their needs and problems. I would like to build rapport and then create goals with my client which we can work towards in sessions. Sympathy, understanding, and honesty are important tenets of the work I do through counseling.

About my background and training…

I have been in nursing and healthcare for 10 years, starting as a certified nurse’s aide and attending night classes until I received my Associate Degree in Nursing. I worked as a Registered Nurse in MA and CT while attending a hybrid program at Simmons University to achieve my Master of Science in Nursing specializing in Family Practice as a Nurse Practitioner. I received my Bachelor of Science in Multidisciplinary Studies from Liberty University.

I have specialized training in psychology, addictive behaviors, substance use disorders and personality disorders. I am culturally sensitive, and trauma informed.

About my work (ideal clients)…

“Love shouldn’t hurt.”

As a speaker for the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, I resonate with and seek to help women, men and children of all ages through any situation present or past which has violated their human rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Depression, anxiety, addiction (substances, sex, other) are some of the most prevalent issues across the world today (and worse since covid). These are clients I’d like to work with.

The erosion of the foundation of the family has been devastating to watch. It has many repercussions for generations to come. Therefore, I have committed myself to helping couples through the ups and downs of life, from communication to infidelity and substance use. If you think there isn’t hope for you and your significant other, I’m here to tell you- there is.

As a former hospice nurse, I have experience and a special place in my heart for those dealing with end-of-life issues and grief. Isolating yourself is natural but it’s not what’s needed. Individual and group therapy can help.

I’d like to be part of some inspiring weight loss journeys many clients are taking. It is not an easy road, but the rewards are great when we stick with it; and having someone to support you and talk to along the way is sometimes all the encouragement you need.

About me (personal interests)…

I am married with a blended family. We have 5 children (babies to teens) and 4 rescue dogs. We’d like to have a farm one day, but for now we enjoy small town living, beach days when it’s warm, hikes every day no matter the weather, and faith-based projects like serving in a soup kitchen or taking mission trips abroad. I was a competitive athlete and coach before my nursing days. Warm cups of coffee, bohemian dresses, and hearing my children laugh are some of my favorite things.
