Hi! My name is Maryellen and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counseling in New York. I have over 10 years of experience working in the mental health field in a variety of settings including: non profit mental health clinics, hospitals, chemical dependency facilities, schools, and with domestic violence programs. I also teach psychology at a local university!
I provide support primarily for women and couples experiencing anxiety, depression, life role transitions, relationships, and self esteem struggles. I also help those who have experienced trauma and abuse.
I focus on providing practical skills using cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). I often use mindfulness techniques and am considered strength based and person centered. I have been trained in eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy (EMDR) and utilize knowledge from this when working with trauma and anxiety.
Along with my goal to help you reach a happier and healthier life where you feel like the person you were meant to be, I want you to feel comfortable and safe along the way. My approach is positive, empathetic, goal directed, and casual. I want you to be able to feel like you’re having a conversation over coffee with a friend! I’m really excited to get to know you!
